Learned something cool today - why numbers have the symbols they do. After all, I'd always wondered by "8" looks like a snowman. Turns out, sadly, that it has nothing to do with snowmen.
When early Phonecian traders needed ways to keep track of quantities, they devised a system based on angles. Look at the early versions of our numbers, below: "1" has one angle, "4" has four angles, and so on.
