So yesterday I'm up at my cabin, in northern Minnesota. I'm helping my dad and neighbor build a log pile. About the most northern Minnesota thing you can do. Here's a picture of the logpile.
My Blackberry rings - I answer it. Maybe not the most northern Minnesota thing you can do.
"Hello, this is Paul."
"Hello, Paul, how's it going?"
"Not bad, just building a log pile."
"Um... OK. This is Rachel, a producer at Comedy Central. Can you come in Thursday and shoot a Web Redemption for Tosh.0?"
Some background: Tosh.0 is a show on Comedy Central about web related stuff. Here's comedian Daniel Tosh, the host.
They do this segment called 'Wed Redemption' where they have somebody from a classic internet clip come in and try to redeem themselves from a hilarious blooper they were involved in. Several years ago, when we were shooting the IdiOlympics, during our Dunk Contest episode, this happened:
And they wanted me to come re-create it, on Comedy Central, on Thursday. I put down the log I has holding.
"You live in Venice, right?" said Rachel. "Can you come by the studio Thursday morning, say 10 o'clock."
“Uh, Thursday might be tough...” I say. “I’m in the woods in northern Minnesota right now.”
“What are you doing in the woods in northern Minnesota?” the producer asks.
“Long story,” I say. My life is very ridiculous sometimes.
Long story short, Comedy Central is now flying me back to LA this afternoon to be interviewed about - and then apparently attempt to re-enact - my dizzy drunk dunking a basketball from many years ago. Then they're flying me back to my cabin in Northern Minnesota Thursday afternoon.
I have no idea what's about to happen to me. But I'll keep you posted.
I can't see this ending well.
